30 days... 1 all-new NES platformer! Announcing...

🌞Super Sunny World🌞

Over the next month we are going to work start to finish on a BRAND NEW platforming game for the NES!

At the end of it, the game will immediately go on sale as a physical cart! #nesdev

About the game:

Super Sunny World is going to be a very simple, bright, colorful, platformer inspired by Super Mario Bros 1. I'd like to recreate some of the "design magic" of that game, with a few little twists to the formula.

This is not a hack! It is an original NES game!

Why 1 month?

This tight timeline will keep things moving at a breakneck pace, and also act as a forcing function to keep scope in check!

Is 30 days too short? I don't know... who cares!

This game will not be groundbreaking, but I plan to make it silky smooth and fun as hell!😁

Current Progress?

We are more or less starting from scratch.

We have already established the general design principals, and mocked up a few test screens.

I have been building a platforming engine for a few months, and that will be the start for this project's engine.

Lots left to do!

I love how in Super Mario Bros. 3, they added the ability for shells to SMASH bricks. It leads to some great "chain reaction" moments.

Super Sunny World (my upcoming NES game) now features this gameplay mechanic as well!

This is maybe a little on the technical side, but I've had a few people reach out with questions on how the Moving Platform logic works in Super Sunny World, so I created the brief explanation.

Let me know if you have any follow up questions!
